There’s no love like the love of a senior pet

Whether you’ve had them since puppyhood, adopted them long ago, or are just gazing into the eyes of a sweet senior at the shelter, the joys of older pets are countless. They’re more loving, more in-tune with our moods and activity level, less destructive than a puppy or active young dog, and — if adopted from a shelter or rescue group — grateful to be part of a loving family again.

If you share your home with seniors, as we do, remember one thing: Keeping their minds as active and engaged as possible will help them stay alert, cognitively healthier, and definitely happier as they age. Food puzzles, hide and seek games, teaching them tricks, or brushing up on their training will all do the job!

If you don’t already have a senior pet, don’t worry — November is “Adopt a Senior Pet Month,” and you can easily visit and search for pets near you who are looking for homes!
