These wings and halo help my blind dog ‘see’

When they see her unerringly race after and retrieve a thrown ball, some people find it hard to believe my 15-year-old Golden Retriever, Shakira, is blind. But she is, and her tendency to turn into a furry bumper car in unfamiliar surroundings tells the tale.

I was recently sent a review product called “Muffin’s Halo” to try, and it blew me away enough that it became one of my top new pet products of the year.

The “halo” is a bumper that is attached to the dog’s shoulders with “wings,” and that will take the hit if the dog gets too close to an obstacle.

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERAThe other dogs looked at Shakira with “What the heck is that?” on their faces when she first started wearing it, but the protection she gets from her protective halo is worth a little bewilderment on their part.

Of course, I think the local coyotes are pretty sure she’s the Second Coming, or at least a canine angel, but that’s another story!

You can find out more, including how to purchase Muffin’s Halo for your dog, on the company’s website.
